Our Services: NDIS Capacity Building Supports

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) seeks to help people with disabilities become more independent. Of the three budgets in the NDIS, the Capacity Building Supports Budget is the one most geared towards independence.

Funding in the NDIS is available from three supports budgets:

  • Core Supports Budget
  • Capacity Building Supports Budget
  • Capital Supports Budget

About the Supports Budgets that the SALT Foundation Provides Supports Under

At the SALT Foundation, we provide NDIS services under the Core Supports Budget and the Capacity Building Supports Budget.

While we don’t offer supports under the Capital Supports Budget, we do have information about these kinds of supports on our blog and how to go about accessing those supports in your NDIS plan.

On this page, we’ll look at the NDIS services the SALT Foundation offers under the Capacity Building Supports Budget.

What is the Capacity Building Supports Budget?

This budget helps you grow in confidence and independence as you pursue your goals.

It covers nine support categories:

SUPPORT CATEGORYTYPES OF SUPPORT ITEMS FUNDED
Support CoordinationA fixed amount for each plan to hire a support coordinator, who helps you connect to the NDIS provider, who is the right fit to achieve the aims of your plan.
Improved Living ArrangementsIf you’re struggling to find somewhere to live, this category aims to help you. (On a related side note, the SALT Foundation is a charity and we provide food relief to our NDIS participants if they need it.)
Increased Social & Community ParticipationHelp to gain the skills you need to take part in recreational activities in the community.
Finding & Keeping a JobA range of employment-related support, such as training and support to help you find and keep a job.
Improved RelationshipsWhile anyone with a disability may need to learn how to have stronger relationships, healthy relationships and a sense of connection are crucial for people with a psychosocial disability. In this category, you’ll typically work with a psychologist to build these skills.
Improved Health & WellbeingGet advice to keep your physical health in optimal shape so you have the energy you need to handle the challenges of your disability.
Improved LearningThis category offers encouragement and information on how to move from school to further education at a university or a TAFE, or if you’re returning to study after an absence.
Improved Life ChoicesIf you need NDIS plan management, this category is the part of your funding that pays for it.
Improved Daily LivingAimed at helping you learn new skills, become more independent, and involve yourself in the community more. You may get these services in a group or one-on-one.

At the SALT Foundation, we provide Support Workers under the following support categories:

While we don’t offer Improved Living Arrangements, we provide food relief through our community house, Alice House in Heidelberg West, and through gift cards to our participants everywhere.
